Antonina SOŁOWIJ

( 1904-1991 )
Born in Lwow, graduate of Sacred Heart High School in Lwow. Wife of Tadeusz Solowij (below). Arrested after the Warsaw Uprising and along with her family sentenced by the Germans to hard labour. Lived in France after the war. Emigrated to Canada in 1948 and settled in Montreal with her husband and daughter Aleksandra. Devoted her spare time to her passion, ceramic art. Died at the age of 87, mourned by her family.
Her sister Maria Sołowij lies in the lot no. 15 [lot C1 014].
Tadeusz SOŁOWIJ
( 1906-2000 )
Economist. Born in south-eastern Poland to a lawyer's family of Ukrainian descent. Steadfastly promoted friendship and mutual understanding between Poles and Ukrainians. In 1927 graduated from the Antwerp Business Academy in Belgium. From 1933 to 1939, worked for banks in Lwow and in Copenhagen, for the Danish branch of General Motors Acceptance Corp., and for the Bank of Poland in Warsaw. Published a book on money markets and interest rates in Poland (1939). Spent the German occupation in Warsaw, and following the collapse of the Warsaw Uprising in 1944 was sentenced along with his family to hard labour in Germany.

After liberation, made his way to France and in 1948 emigrated to Montreal. Manager of the Investment Research Department of L.G. Beaubien and member of the Board at Westbourne Oil Ltd.. Assistant Director of the Société Financière pour le Commerce et l’Industrie, the Canadian branch of the Paris National Bank. Author of articles on economics. Conducted lectures on economics as well as specialized lectures on CBC Radio. Was actively involved in leading Polish organizations. Died at the age of 93.
His brother, Volodymyr Sołowij, lies in the lot no. 15 [lot C1 014], and his sister, Zofia Sulima Popiel is buried in the lot no. 36 [lot C1 175].
