Maria LIEBICH
( 1893-1987 )
Born Byczkowska, in central Poland. In 1919 married officer Andrzej Liebich. Mother of Halina Maria and Andrzej Lucjan. Joined the ranks of the clandestine Polish Armed Forces, and subsequently the underground Home Army, in their fight against the Nazi invaders. Took part in the Warsaw Uprising in 1944 as a liaison officer and nurse. Was evacuated with the entire field hospital to the prisoner-of-war camp in Oberlangen near Magdeburg (Stalag IV C). After the camp was liberated in April 1945 by the Division of General Maczek, Maria was evacuated to England, where she worked for the Polish Red Cross. Brought to Canada by her daughter Halina in 1950, she helped raise her grandchildren Krysia, Basia and Magdusia. She died at the age of 94.
Her daughter, Maria Halina Lewandowska, and her granddaughter, Krystyna Wacek are buried in grave number 53 [lot C1 214].
