Irena PLATER-ZYBERK

( 1891-1979 )
Born and educated in Janopol, the family estate, now in Latvia. Educated in Krakow and at the Ladies Agricultural College of Chyliczki, near Warsaw. Spoke Polish, French, German, Russian and English. In 1914, married Count Edward Plater-Zyberk (1880-1938). She survived two world wars, raised 5 children, emigrated to Canada in 1958 as the grandmother of a large family. Regarded her last 20 years in Montreal as the happiest in her life.
Daughters Jolanta Pomian Bławdziewicz, Irena (Renia) Belina Brzozowska and Róża Siemieńska, graves no. 84 and 85 [lot C1 661], no. 45 [lot C1 184], grandson Edward - grave no. 93 [lot C2 108], Romer cousins - grave no. 21 [lot C1 019].

Born and educated in Poland. In 1940, married Zygmunt Hempel who was murdered by the Gestapo in 1944, as were her three brothers. In 1950 married Kazimierz Plater-Zyberk (son of Irena, above), and raised 2 children, Maria Kalina and Edward. Graduated from the Université de Montréal. Died at age 91.
