Olgierd Wojciech BRZESKI
( 1921-2000 )
Born and raised in Poznan. Eighteen years old when war broke out, he made his way to France to join the Polish army. Fought on the Maginot line. Upon retreat in 1940 to Switzerland, was interned there and studied in Zurich obtaining a PhD in chemistry.

In 1950 emigrated to Canada and settled in Montreal, continuing his career with the pharmaceutical firm of Sandoz, for which he had already worked in Switzerland in 1948-1950. He specialized in antibiotic research and in the introduction of new pharmaceuticals, publishing numbers of scientific articles. He advanced to top management positions, also serving on the boards of other corporations. Meanwhile he also studied at McGill University, earning degrees in Management (ca 1965) and in Archeology ten years later.

From 1988, he passionately took part in digs in France, Japan, China, Israel, South Africa, Malta and Cyprus – as well as in Poland, where he published accounts of his work.

In 1990-1999 Olek founded and chaired the Polish-Canadian Chamber of Commerce, and was active in numerous Polish and Canadian organizations, for which he received many distinctions.

After the clampdown on the Solidarity movement in Poland 1981, Olek organized the transport of medical aid for victims of repression.

Married to Maria Lasocka, father of Ada, Anna, Veronica and Marina. He died suddently after hip surgery at the age of 79
