Leonia SZULC
born BARTOSZEWICZ

( 1875-1965 )
Born in Poland. Mother of Krystyna (below), who brought Leonia to Canada in 1930. The family moved from Toronto to Montreal, where Leonia taught in Polish "Saturday" schools over many years. Died at age 90.
Krystyna IDZIAK
born SZULC

( 1910-1990 )
Born in Poland before WWI. Came to Canada in 1928 and married Stefan Idziak, with whom she had two children, Danuta and Edmund. In 1931, the family moved from Toronto to Montreal, where they owned and managed a well-known specialty-grocery store. Like her husband, Krystyna was very active in community and social organizations, including the Polish section of the Canadian Red Cross and the Committee to Aid Polish Children. She also managed a 100-member folk dance group which won first prize at one of Montreal's Ethnic Festivals. Krystyna died aged 80.
Stefan IDZIAK
( 1902-1993 )
Born in Sosnowiec, south-western Poland then under Prussian domination. After earning a degree in Commerce, he served in the newly-formed Polish army in 1922-1924. Emigrated to Canada in 1926 and settled in Toronto after exploring the country from coast to coast. Married Krystyna Szulc in 1928, father of Danuta and Edmund. Moving to Montreal in 1931, the couple owned and ran a popular grocery business. Very active in various voluntary associations, Stefan founded the Polish-Canadian Club of Toronto, the Polish Veterans' Association, the Mutual Assistance Organization's Health Fund and others. He was awarded the Gold Cross of Merit for his efforts on behalf of the Polish and Canadian communities. Widowed, he died at age 91, mourned by his children and grandchildren.
Jadwiga Helena GAJEWSKA
(Her name is not shown on the tombstone)

( 1892-1967 )
Born and raised near Poznan. Lost her husband and her whole family during the war. Was imprisoned in a German concentration camp where she was used for medical experiments. At war's end, was given humanitarian aid in Sweden, then emigrated to Canada. Here, she was befriended by the Idziak family. Upon her sudden death at age 75, she was laid to rest in the Idziak family's plot.
