Czesław KALINA
( 1914-1979 )
Born in Czestochowa, southern Poland. Studied chemistry at Warsaw University. In 1939 served as a reserve officer in the Polish Army fighting against the invading German forces. Interned by the Soviets in Lithuania, managed to escape to France to join his regiment but was again interned, in Switzerland, upon retreat from the German blitzkrieg. Studied in Switzerland. In 1945, rejoined the Polish forces in Britain taking part in the liberation of France for which he was decorated with the War Cross. In 1947 married Elisabeth Gertrude Bebié. They emigrated to Canada in 1951, settling in Montreal. He died at 65, mourned by his wife and four children, Mathias, Barbara, Wanda-Elisabeth and Marie-Christine.
